Since 2001 the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force has hosted the "Drop
a Dime on Cyber Crime" program on our web site, allowing
visitors to file an electronic report regarding crimes involving
computers. Historically, we have tried to restrict complaints to
white collar crimes such as identity theft and e-bay fraud. The need
for this is no more.
We are excited to announce that
the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force has entered into an
agreement with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center
(www.ifccfbi.gov), which is a partnership between the National
White Collar Crime Center (www.nw3c.org), and the FBI
(www.fbi.gov). This partnership will allow our visitors to file
an electronic complaint regardless of the type of crime.
To Drop a Dime on Cyber Crime,
you need simply fill out a set of electronic complaint forms which when
completed, will go to the IFCC data center. An analyst there
will review the complaint, compare it against their in house
databases, then forward it to the most appropriate law
enforcement agency. The Maine Computer Crimes Task Force will
maintain a database with all of the complaints and will be
notified immediately of each individual report. Staff at
the task force will serve as your local contact. , or in many
cases, the primary investigative agency. If you have any
questions about your complaint, please contact Sergeant Glenn
Lang at 207-877-8081. Please have your complaint number
ready.
